Kirkus Review (KirkusReviews.com)KIRKUS REVIEWThe first book in a fantasy series about a Christian family battling the forces of darkness. In approximately 100 A.D. in the ancient Greek city of Ephesus, the aged Apostle John shares a secret prophecy with his young caretaker about “an evil not born of this world,” intent on coming to Earth and destroying the forces of light. He also tells of a chosen one who would arise to “stand for all mankind.” In 1999 Florida, a pregnant woman survives a car crash just long enough to give birth. The child’s father, FBI agent Johnathan Sette, is still unconscious in the hospital when a mysterious stranger abducts the newborn baby. This sparks a search that takes up a good portion of Edge’s novel, as forces of light and darkness align around the little girl, who’s the embodiment of the Apostle John’s prophecy. Agent Sette immediately suspects an international crime cartel, the Syndicate, of kidnapping his daughter, but there are even more malevolent and otherworldly forces at work under the control of a being called the Destroyer. In order to protect his other children, Sette insists that they be extensively trained in martial arts by the super-adept Seven Dragons family. Edge handles these disparate plot strands with considerable ease, and he shows a cinematic flair in standout scenes: There are enough car crashes, fight sequences and tense standoffs to satisfy any thriller reader. The story is suffused with an uncompromising but never preachy Christian ethos, in a rare instance of religious fiction that can be readily enjoyed by a wider audience. Edge maintains a fast pace, but cuts the mood frequently with humor and pathos. Minor, annoying formatting problems, such as a copyright notice at the bottom of every page, only slightly distract from this accomplished first novel.A well-done first installment in a promising Christian-themed action series.
So much more than an action-packed scifi tale!
This book was so much more than an action-packed sci-fi tale! It's full of spiritual depths and truths and even intrigue. The dialogue was so alive and authentic I couldn't help but feel I knew the players. It's a good, strong story with solid characters and reading it was like watching a beautifully choreographed big screen production. I am so delighted that I jumped into this adventure at the recommendation of a fellow author. I couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end!! I highly recommend this excellent read and am looking forward to the sequel!
Suspenseful and Enjoyable Read
I enjoyed reading this book even as I had to suspend my sense of reality to do so. The fast action kept me turning the pages and I was relieved that there did not seem to be any conflict between the author's clearly Christian position and the Catholic Church. In fact, deep sigh of relief, Mr. Edge portrayed the two as working on the same side. Nicely done! The more fantastic elements concerning the heightened intelligence and marshal arts abilities of the children was well portrayed and even humorously depicted. I would have liked to have seen some limits on their abilities in that it almost seemed like they would get what ever power they wanted. That became dangerously simplistic in that children, as well as adults must face painful limits as part of our human experience. And I was baffled by the need to discover if a person was 'saved" before being shot. If they were saved and going straight to Heaven - would that not naturally preclude committing a felony which necessitates their being shot? Just a question...

Fascinating Christian sci-fi
I was thoroughly surprised by the plot. A federal agent father loses his wife from an evil syndicate's attack and then finds his newborn child missing from the hospital, thus begins a 7-year search. During this time, he focuses on teaching his other children how to protect themselves in any situation. The fight scenes are dramatic enough for any grown man and will likely make young people want to learn these innovative self-defense techniques. The kids are also extremely funny, especially the twin boys.
While Dad fights crime worldwide, with the family in tow, we are given glimpses into the large picture of a sinister threat to destroy the world. We also see how this family chooses to turn every set-back, every heartache in their lives, into another opportunity to trust God. It isn't preachy, just written as a natural result of the family truly believing God is the answer to everything. I loved getting a glimpse into the life of the apostle John and the idea that he could have written another prophecy that was hidden until it was needed for the protection of all mankind. There are some other plot twists I wasn't expecting because the author really has a new concept. It's thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi/fantasy, but it challenges your spiritual walk as well. Such a powerful story filled with spiritual depth beyond the bounds of mere fiction! Excellent!! Author Felicia Mires
My First Christian Sci-Fi Read And It Was Great
I asked my husband to buy this book for me on his Kindle so I could read it. I'm not much into sci-fi, but wanted to experience this author. I was not disappointed.
The book is a fast moving adventure-mystery that has twists and turns that kept me reading to see what happens next, with some symbolism reminiscent of The Davinci Code and characters that add to the story's ingenuity.
Best of all it left me wanting to read the next book due out later this year.
Congratulations Jarrod, you have a winner here.
Great Action, Quick Moving
A great read. Good action and movement thoughout the story. I was able to read the book very quickly as it was hard to put down.
If compared to a movie, It is a bit similar to "End of Days" (Arnold Schwarznegger movie). Unlike that movie, this book doesn't try to portray the church as having anything but good intentions. In fact, this book mostly stays away from passing judgement on the modern church. It instead focuses on the character development of the main characters, their lives, and climactic battle at the end of the book. Unlike other books I have read, this book does not overly focus on mundane details while building the character development. There is enough action and movement where all details are important to the bigger story. This is what made the book a great read. - Source: Amazon
An Excellent and Highly Recommend Sci-fi Christian Read
I was intrigued by the words Christian Fiction so I took a second look at this book. I then read the book description and reviews and decided this was definitely a buy. I will say now- it was worth every cent.
If you like suspenseful reads, you'll like this book. The story centers around an FBI agent and his family. A suspenseful turn of events unfolds and the agent's youngest child, a newborn, is abducted. The kidnapper obviously knew the security camera layout as the only photographic lead they have is a fuzzy partial shot from the back.
We feel the agent's frustration as well as his personal anguish as he searches for his missing child. As I read I got the feeling, due to several things that occurred, that something was simmering just below the surface. I had to hold myself back from skipping ahead in the book.
Adding to the story is the addition of martial arts as the agent smartly decides to teach his children how to protect themselves. This schooling is spread strategically throughout the story and fits into the plot seamlessly.
There is a consistent feed of crucial information throughout the story regarding the abducted baby but I don't reveal spoilers. When you read this book, I think you'll see the value of the information about the abducted baby.
I'm intentionally leaving out pertinent information but I think you'll thank me later for doing so. This story really drew me in and later when things were revealed I had chills as I read the parts.
I didn't realize this until later but despite an abduction, a foiled robbery attempt (no spoilers you'll get to that part soon enough when you read this book) and a lot of action – I don't recall seeing one swear word which – well, was refreshing.
All in all, this was a beyond excellent read and I highly recommend it. - Source: Amazon
After I began reading this book, I could not put it down. I was so captivated and enthralled by it that I kept reading..... Not what I thought it would be....so much better. This could be a movie !! I totally enjoyed the experience of reading this book and cannot wait until the next in the series from the author. - Source: Amazon

Absolutely love it!
You're never quite sure what to expect when someone claims to write "Christian fiction." But this was a pleasant surprise. Not smarmy, not preachy. Just plain out exciting, interesting, and FUN! Starts out with a bang and keeps you hanging on for a twisty-turny adventure. I highly recommend it for adults, teens and tweens alike. Looking forward to more of this series, and how about a movie?!?!?! Enjoy! - Source: Amazon
THIS! This is how Christian fiction should be written. Non. Stop. Action. The auther really knows how to create a visual picture that gets the heart racing. The best part is, even though the book deals with some scary situations, my child could read this. I'm looking forward to more books by Mr. Edge. - Source: Amazon
Great paced book that keeps your attention
This is a great read! His writing style plays out beautifully from his descriptive technique. You can truly see and feel what is happening. You can see his love for God throughout the book. This makes it all the better. This is a book that I can recommend to anyone. I love that I am able to discuss the book with my teen sister as it is a book she can also enjoy. I am waiting in anticipation for the next book to arrive. - Source: Amazon
Exciting twist and turns that are absolutely intriguing
This book pulls many different ideas, that you may think are contradictory, and blends them wonderfully together. The Author gives just enough of each ideology throughout the book to keep you interested and looking forward to the outcome of the main characters. Although the story line is predictable much like any prophecy, it contains exciting twist and turns that are absolutely intriguing. I am looking forward to the 2nd and 3rd book of this action packed Christian sic-fi Trilogy. Would definitely recommend. - Source: Amazon
